Following a complaint to my web host by the British
Phonographic Industry
regarding links to MP3 music samples I feel I must
respond :
The sound
file section of this site is a very small part.. The
samples were only 1 minute long and 80's songs
(20 years old)We are not talking about the latest
top 40 albums or singles which are freely available
over the internet.Again I must stress these are EIGHTIES
songs;songs people have in their loft hidden away
on vinyl/tape.All they do is bring back memories for
people. I do not believe that a few 80's MP3's
samples are harming the record industry ; moreover
they are making people buy the CD thus replacing their
vinyl records. I know this argument would not have
any credence with the record industry.
I would welcome their response to how links to few
80's mp3 samples are supposedly harming the
record industry.
I
would be interested to know if the artists featured
on this site would welcome the free promotion they
are given, or would they rather be left in obscurity?I
know what I would choose.
Do the BPI really think a 1 minute sound sample is
really going to affect their artists royalties?I don`t
think so.What they are actually doing is depriving
the 80s artist of much needed exposure and
subsequently record sales.
Why
don`t the BPI ask the artists featured on this site
if they object to having a 1minute sample of their
music featured ?Surely this would be fairer to everyone
involved .
If
anybody else has any thoughts please let me know.
